Reflections

Professor and Classmates,

Here is how I would rate my individual categories of wellness.

Physical Well-Being- 6. Being physically fit is something that I feel I could always improve upon and at this point in time, I have just recovered from shoulder surgery where I was on medical leave for a month. I have a lot of work to do to get back into the shape I was in before surgery. I have a plan to do this, I just have to focus and get it done.

Spiritual Well-Being- 7. I know that I have some room to improve in this category as well. By taking this class, I have been exposed to some sources and some strategies in order to improve and I plan on using them immediately.

Psychological Well-Being- 7. There are things as Soldiers in the military that we become exposed to and often times these are things we take with us and often need help to sort them out. That is about as specific as I am going to get with this topic. Just know that I am doing okay and plan on doing better with assistance.

Goals for each category

Physical- My goal is to be at the same level of fitness in 4 months as I was 4 months before I had my shoulder surgery.

Spiritual- My goal is to dedicate some personal time for myself everyday and to start attending church.

Psychological- My goals is to have peace inside myself and look forward to each new day and to live each day in the present and let the past go.

Activities for each goal

Physical- Increasing cardio and muscular fitness into my daily life, eat better and ensure I am getting enough sleep every night

Spiritual- Better time management to have that quiet time with myself every night, finding a church and becoming more involved with the church group.

Psychological- I can take the recommendations from the people who are assisting and do some research on my own for education and understanding

I found this exercise to beneficial as it was very explained by the instructor and the exercises were helpful to me

  1. Scott,
I love that you have the goal to have peace inside and look forward to each new day. When I see that in someone I know that they are happy. It's not that there are less hard times, it's just that a person who is at peace and enjoys being alive are better able to face each struggle head on, and keep their wits about them. You sound like you're on the right path. It's also very important to take some time for yourself no matter what. That helps me keep my sanity sometime when it's an extra crazy day.

  2. I reckon you may know this already, but would like to reiterate that “spirituality” has nothing to do with attending church. Many of us from generations think that they are intertwined, however, they aren’t. Spiritually begins with the ability to know the preciousness of your life, the beauty of your heart and the qualities and capacities of your inner life; to be able to use yourself as a vessel to take you toward a life of meaning, depth, profound health and service. Of course, as one would expect, these preparation takes a lifetime because we begin to grow from one level to another, year after year.

  3. Hello Scott,
It sounds that you are on the right path! Having quiet time every night is key to your spiritual path, go within and connect to yourself, this will bring you much clarity and the psychological goals will fall into place. The peace is there, you are not far from it!

  4. You have some great goals to achieving optimal health in your life. Attending a church will certainly help in achieving that spiritual fulfillment that you may need. I know it helps me. I am not a religious person, however, I am a spiritual person. I find that to become spiritually connected, we need to build on the inner spirit of self. We all find a higher spirit relationship with something, or someone. As long as we find in something natural, and not from money, power, or gain from some one's loss.
The best in 2014 on reaching all of your goals!
