Beneficial Practices Unit 8

The two practices that I found to be most beneficial were meditation and visualization.

I use meditation everyday because it helps me with stress from work. I also have high blood pressure, controlled with medication, but I also use meditation to help with that as well. I practice meditation in the morning before I go to work. I find a quiet place and sit peacefully with background noise in the room and focus on deep breathing, relaxing the muscles and calming my inner self. I do this for around 30 minutes in the morning. I also have a mini session at lunch, while I am at work. I do the same routine, only for 15 minutes. At night I practice one more session for 30 minutes before I go to bed. It is a very beneficial exercise and one that has helped me a lot.

I practice visualization as well. I perform this exercise every night for 15-30 minutes. I visualize how my day is going to be the next day. I visualize the positive actions I will bring to tomorrow and set mini goals in my head about how I can effectively perform my job and interact with my staff and patients. This really affects how your day goes. There are times when challenges at work become a hurdle into achieving your visualization goals. At that point, I handle the challenges as best as I can and I find a quiet place and perform an assessment of myself of how the situation was handled. Was there anything I could have done different or better during that experience. This type of visualization is after the fact but it is still a good practice that has helped me.

  1. Scott,
Glad to hear that these practices are beneficial to you, it is as well to me! Meditation makes me feel a sense of calmness, purity in my self. It also allows me to have a healthy and positive attitude. Visualization, its great to envision what's ahead, with also have a positive mind and not wondering what if. Keeping up with these practices can help us foster healthy minds and lives. Enjoy!

  2. Scott,

I am also glad to hear that you have incorporated two of the practices we learned in class into your life. Meditation is a great stress reliever as well as a great way to train your mind to "witness".

Incorporating practices into our lives is very beneficial, mind and body. I find that visualization helps me immensely, especially when I was overseas and planning for missions. Looking into myself and trying to go over scenarios and ways to accomplish the mission.
As always great posts and best of luck for final week.
